Meet Col Federici

Colonel Barry Federici – A Legacy of Service & Financial Expertise

Colonel Federici graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 1988.  He completed Officer Candidate’s School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in January 1989. Colonel Federici served for the next 5 years in both Korea and Japan.
After serving on active duty in the United States Marine Corps (USMC), he was hired to work on Wall Street as a stockbroker by a leading financial firm and had his own branch office.

In 1997 he earned a scholarship to the University of Illinois in Champaign where he earned an MBA (concentration in finance) and a master’s degree in accounting (specializing in taxation) so that he could better serve his clients. He then worked at a Big Five accounting firm, with a focus on high-net-worth clients, including tax and investment advisory services.

After the tragic events of 9/11, Colonel Barry Federici returned to active duty. In 2015, following his third post-9/11 combat tour in Afghanistan, he was selected to Chair the DoD’s Investment Advisory Committee (IAC). The IAC oversees all Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) special-use and retirement pension funds, totaling in excess of $1.1 trillion. This opportunity allowed Colonel Federici to combine his financial and investment expertise with his service to the country. A true privilege!

In 2019, Colonel Federici retired from the Reserves as a USMC Colonel after 30 years of service, with five tours in the Middle East, including multiple combat tours in Afghanistan. During his 37-year financial career, Colonel Federici has worked on both the “buy-side” and “sell-side” executing thousands of capital market transactions for his clients and family. Today, he owns and operates various businesses in his hometown of Sycamore, IL.
Barry’s credentials include: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), and Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Colonel Federici is also a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois.
